Privacy Policy — NUST Navigator

Independent Student Platform NUST Navigator is an independent platform built, owned, and operated entirely by NUST students. It has no official affiliation with, endorsement from, or formal connection to NUST or any of its departments or administrative bodies. The university does not control or fund this platform.

Accountability Notice Your account is registered with your NUST student email, and all content you post — including posts, comments, reviews, ratings, and feedback — is linked to that account. This information is visible to administrators and is not anonymous. If you use the Platform in a way that breaches our Terms of Service or NUST's code of conduct, your identity and activity will be shared with NUST administration, which may take its own independent disciplinary action.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the information you provide directly: your NUST email, username, password (stored securely, never in plain text), profile details (bio, department, avatar, cover photo), and any content you create — posts, comments, replies, reviews, ratings, likes, follows, reports, and feedback submissions. If you submit feedback as a guest, we may also collect an optional contact email you choose to provide.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use this information solely to operate the Platform's features: displaying your feed and profile, enabling notifications, supporting societies and event listings, and reviewing reports or feedback. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third-party advertisers or any commercial entity.

3. Identity, Traceability & Sharing with the University

Although NUST Navigator is an independent student platform, accountability within the NUST community is a core part of how it works. Administrators can see which account is responsible for any given post, comment, or report for the purpose of enforcing our Terms of Service. Where conduct on the Platform appears to violate NUST's code of conduct or university policy — such as harassment, abuse, or academic dishonesty — we will disclose the relevant account information and activity to NUST administration so that the matter can be handled under the university's own disciplinary procedures. This disclosure happens independently of any moderation action we take within the app.

4. Account Privacy Settings

If you set your account to private, your posts and your follower/following lists are hidden from logged-out guests, but remain visible to other logged-in users on the Platform and to administrators at all times.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to comply with university policy, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. You may request account deletion through the Feedback page.

6. Security

We take reasonable technical measures (such as password hashing) to protect your information, but no online platform can guarantee absolute security.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
